ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

WARNING:

ECT Sensor No.1 Removal/Installation

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Drain the engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT).

3. Remove the battery. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

4. Disconnect the ECT sensor No.1 connector.

5. Remove the ECT sensor No.1 using the SST.

Mazda 2. ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR

6. Install in the reverse order of removal.

7. Refill the engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT).

ECT Sensor No.2 Removal/Installation

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Drain the engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT).

3. Disconnect the ECT sensor No.2 connector.

4. Remove the ECT sensor No.2 using the SST.

5. Install in the reverse order of removal.

6. Refill the engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT).

ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR INSPECTION

WARNING:

ECT Sensor No.1 Inspection

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Drain the engine coolant. (See COOLING SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS).

3. Remove the battery. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

4. Disconnect the ECT sensor No.1 connector.

5. Remove the ECT sensor No.1. (See ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

6. Place the ECT sensor No.1 in water with a thermometer, and heat the water gradually.

7. Measure the resistance between the ECT sensor No.1 terminals using an ohmmeter.

ECT Sensor No.2 Inspection

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Drain the engine coolant. (See COOLING SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS).

3. Disconnect the ECT sensor No.2 connector.

4. Remove the ECT sensor No.2. (See ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

5. Place the ECT sensor No.2 in water with a thermometer, and heat the water gradually.

6. Measure the resistance between the ECT sensor No.2 terminals using an ohmmeter.
