Mazda 2: Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)

VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS) INSPECTION

CAUTION:

On-Vehicle Inspection

1. Inspect the power supply circuit for the VSS.

  1. Disconnect the VSS connector.

  1. Switch the ignition to ON.
  2. Measure the voltage at VSS connector terminal A (harness side).

VSS specification

  1. Switch the ignition to off.
  2. Connect the VSS connector.

2. Inspect the GND circuit for the VSS.

  1. Switch the ignition to off.
  2. Measure the voltage at VSS connector terminal C (harness side).

VSS specification

3. Inspect the signal circuit for the VSS.

  1. Connect the oscilloscope to the following PCM connector terminals and set it as below.
  1. Start the engine.
  2. Measure the wave form when the following conditions are met.
    • Vehicle speed: 30 km/h {19 mph}
    • Gear position: 3 GR

VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

CAUTION:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove in the order indicated in the table.

3. Install in the reverse order of removal.
